Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist and writer. At 88 years old, she states that art has saved her life. Prone to hallucinations due to mental illness at an early age, Kusama endured a tragic childhood. She eventually admitted herself to a mental hospital and has lived there, by choice, for the past four decades.
